🌀 Part 2 — Whirling Dervishes Ceremony (1 Hour)
Witness the sacred Sema ritual at Kızlarağası Medresesi, a stunning historic venue in the heart of Sultanahmet. This powerful spiritual tradition dates back to the 13th century and is performed by practitioners of the Mevlevi Order, founded by the followers of Rumi (Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi).
The ceremony is not simply a performance — it is a sacred ritual representing the soul’s journey toward spiritual enlightenment. As the dervishes whirl in graceful circular motion, each movement carries deep symbolic meaning: leaving the ego behind, achieving inner peace, and moving toward divine unity.
The Sema is accompanied by live traditional Turkish music — the mystical ney flute, rhythmic drums, and the oud create an atmosphere that is truly timeless and deeply spiritual.
The dervishes wear symbolic attire:
- White robes — represent rebirth into spiritual purity
- Tall hat (sikke) — symbolizes the tombstone of the ego
Complimentary tea and coffee are served. The ceremony starts at 19:00 every evening at the historic venue.
